Today, I’m really happy to talk to you about one of my
favorite screenplay and director :
Woody Allen !
At first, I would like to
present you this inescapable screenplay, but director also : his movies, his
awards, and his “habits”. After that, we will talk about his new movie,
released in September in the USA :
Blue Jasmine.
To begin, I would like to present you briefly Woody
Allen, who is one of screenplays the most admired of our century. Woody Allen
was born the 1st December 1935 (yes, he is 78 years old !). He was
noticed by Charles Fedman, and began his career by rewriting scenarios, as
“What’s New pussycat?” in 1965, or “Casino Royale” in 1967. But Woody will
stand out later, with more personal and more melancholic works, but always full
of automockery, as Annie Hall or Manhattan, in which will be express his first
muse Diane Keaton. After that, he met Mia Farrow in the 80s, his new muse who will
appear in all its movies, almost all were made in New York. In the 2000s, he
moves his camera to Europe, where he will stop in London, Madrid, Paris, and
Rome, with Scarlett Johansson in Match Point, Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina
Barcelona, Marion Cotillard in Midnight in Paris, and Roberto Begnini, Penelope
Cruz and Woody Allen himself in To Rome with Love. Finally, in 2013, Woody
Allen choose to come back in the US, between the east cost and the west coast in
San Francisco with his new movie, Blue Jasmine.
Despite his auteur status, Woody Allen is often considered
only as a writer : he is been nominated 15 times for the best screenplay
(winning three times), and only 7 times for director (only one win!). Maybe it
will change with Blue Jasmine, if its box-office surge continues. Few critics
say that it could be the best movie of Woody for years …
Jasmine, New Yorker also snob that elegant woman,
decides to settle down at her sister's Ginger's, who lives in modest one
apartment of San Francisco, to try to surmount the failure of her marriage.
Jasmine, is perturbed, under the influence of antidepressants, and
psychologically unstable when she arrives to her sister. Jasmine has a
weakness: she sees herself only through the other people's opinion, and refuses
to see the reality, she looks the other way…
