The French cinema in mourning
Monday, the
French cinema, opera and theater director Patrice Chéreau has died at the age
of 68 from lung cancer.
Great
cultural figures, he has evolved in this field since his young age. In
particular, he became director of the Théatre de Sartrouville in north Paris at
the age of 22.
He has
known several successes (sometimes controversial), the most popular is his film
La Reine Margot, which won the Cannes
festival prize in 1994.
If you want to discover this filmmaker you can also watch Intimité, Son Frère or Persécution !
The last
film of Woody Allen, Blue Jasmine, is one of his most important successes. But
even so, he won’t be showed in India because of anti-tobacco rules. Indian law
requires health warnings to be shown on screen when characters smoke in films, but
Woody Allen refused to insert anti-tobacco text into his film. He considers
that spectators will pay more attention into the text than into the scene.
Other
filmmakers, like David Fincher with The
Girl with the dragon tattoo, have already stopped the diffusion of their
films in India after for the same reason.
So, we have two losers in this story : Woody Allen do without a large audience and the Indian who can't watch the film...
Fortunately, we haven't these restrictions in France, and we can see the film in our dinemas, released the last week !
Four months
after his Cannes festival’s prize, the film La Vie d’Adèle releases tomorrow on
our screens in France. During this
period, the movie has attracted a lot of attention.
First time,
because of his subject: a love story between two young women. At that point
(mai 2013), France still lived some protestations against the gay wedding, and
some consider this award like a provocation.
Then, in September,
Adèle Exarchopoulos, one of the heroines, made some controversial revelations.
She said that filming was a 'horrible' experience, with strained relationship
between actors and director. In another hand, she explained that it was a good
learning experience for her, as an actor.
We hope that all these events don't promote the film in a bad way, we have to keep in mind that it's a masterpiece ! And share your opinion if you have seen the film !
